Bluestriped Grunt
The “Fishy Face” is a curious Bluestriped Grunt.
I’ve been carrying a camera below the surface since my very first open-water certification dive. (I somehow convinced our instructor, Paula, that I could handle it and our required skills demonstration.)
Found practically everywhere on the shallow reefs and mangroves, the Bluestriped Grunt (Haemulon sciurus) often school — even with other grunts and snappers. As it grinds the teeth deep in its throat, it produces a grunt-like sound that you can hear.
The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects about 2,900 square nautical miles, yet supports about 3 million annual visitors. Disease, heat stress, and human activity have taken their toll yet nearly 6,000 marine species call the coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass meadows home!
This would look great as a print on a black 3/4” standout mount, or matted and paired with a thin frame, up to 11×16”.
