My Own Little Reef
This small coral head has a plethora of animals and organisms living together and epitomizes the community found under the ocean’s surface.
One of my long-suffering dive buddies will tell you he’s not surprised when I spend the better part of a dive settled in to one spot to compose a shot, or commune with whatever I’ve encountered.
Part of a shallow reef unmarked by a mooring buoy, it’s location will remain a secret to me and one of my favorite charter captains.
The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects about 2,900 square nautical miles, yet supports about 3 million annual visitors. Disease, heat stress, and human activity have taken their toll yet nearly 6,000 marine species call the coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass meadows home!
This would look great as a metalprint or acrylic print on a dibond backing (16×20” or so).
