Trout Lily #1

Trout Lillies
The Dimpled Trout Lily (Erythronium umbilicatum) is a native spring ephemeral found in bottomland or slope forests in just a few places in the southeastern U.S.
It’s a fascinating plant, with a graceful, downward-facing bloom that opens and follows the sun.
Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve is a conservation area near Whigham, GA protecting several acres of Trout Lillies and Trilliums that only bloom for a few weeks in late January through March — depending upon the weather.
Apparently, conditions there are just right for this plant to thrive. They cover an northeast-facing hillside under a canopy of deciduous trees.
When in full bloom, it looks like a carpet spread over a couple of acres of these yellow blooms and deep green leaves among the leaf litter
