The peaceful, invigorating flow of water over and around rocks.
I could sit and watch the water for hours, hearing its song as it splashes into rocks, curls around a fallen log, burbles above obstacles hidden below, and moves ever downward.
This view is a ghost of the past. The calm stream you see here belies the fury that tore through Lake Lure in 2004 as a result of Hurricane Helene, erasing this very riverbed and devastating the small town. While we celebrate the hard-won recovery and re-opening of the lake, this landscape has been forever reshaped.
