Curved Bricks - Fort Clinch
A large, pentagonal fort constructed of almost five million bricks, it houses bastions, barracks, a prison, hospital, kitchens and related buildings.
With an education in architectural drafting (before the days of CAD - computer-aided drafting), I have a keen eye for structural and aesthetic details.
Started in 1847 for coastal defense on the mouth of the St. Mary’s River, it was never completed nor saw battle even though it played a role in the Civil War.
Fort Clinch State Park, on the northern end of Amelia Island attracts history buffs and nature lovers alike. A beautiful 1,400 acre park with giant live oaks in maritime hammocks full of wildlife and scenic views, it’s worthy of a visit with hiking and biking trails, campgrounds, and of course the fort and interpretive center.
This image looks great on canvas, on archival paper in a variety of frames (11×14” or so). or an acrylic print. Alternatively, group this image with others from the Architecture Collection in a Triple Picture Frame Display (8” prints in 14×14” frames in the example below) or a Triple Collage Frame (6×6” prints in a 12×24” frame shown).
