USCGC Duane

Looking up past the railing towards the crows nest of the USCGC Duane.

The first time I dove her, she had only been down about a year, and her hull still glowed a ghostly white seen as soon as you entered the water. Over the years, it’s been fascinating to visit and see the progression from a proud vessel to a coral reef teeming with life.

The United States Coast Guard Cutter Duane is a 327-foot retired military ship, commissioned in 1936 and serving for almost 50 years. After extensive cleaning and preparation, she was sunk by the Keys Association of Dive Operators to become an artificial reef and diving destination off Key Largo

The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects about 2,900 square nautical miles, yet supports about 3 million annual visitors. Disease, heat stress, and human activity have taken their toll yet nearly 6,000 marine species call the coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass meadows home!

This would look great as a metalprint or acrylic print on a dibond backing (16×20” or larger).
